American Chinese as good as it gets.Favorites include the string beans, orange chicken and the ol' standby - Kung Pao Chicken (extra peanuts if ya please). It's oily, breaded, fried - again, it's American Chinese. Don't go there thinking you're heading into someplace in Alhambra. The bar is a surprisingly nice place to watch a game. The owners are as friendly as can be. Generous pours.Enjoy!

So I brought my employee for a late lunch, happy that this restaurant was open until 3 pm instead of just 2 pm. Hadn't had Chinese in a while, so hoping for the best. Reasonable price for lunch special, service fine, and that's where the good comments must end. Moo Goo Gai Pan and the Hot and Sour Chicken seemed to share the same, tasteless, bland, hard-to-identify "chicken." Like nuggets but more bland and zero flavor and texture. The hot and sour seemed to add a bit of taste to that dish, but the Moo Goo Gai Pan was a 0 on the flavor scale. My assistant noted: "it tasted like something you'd buy in the frozen section of a supermarket and reheat at home." Egg drop soup acceptable, everything else disappointing. From what I read from other reviews, there must be some dishes that have taste, but I would not go there again. Two stars because they were friendly, and it seemed clean enough.

I went there for lunch and the 3 of us had the tangerine chicken, chicken egg foo young and sweet and sour pork, all on lunch specials for $5.95 - $6.95 There is a decent assortment of lunch specials and when you sit down you will always get some fried noodles as a sort of appetizer which is common at amercanized chinese places and little dishes of apricot sauce (very similar to what is used in chinese chicken salad) and what may well be a home made hot sauce which had a smoky taste and both sauces were excellent. You may also get a thin sweet red sauce.Inside it is nothing like Twin Dragon up the street on Pico; the place is not cavernous and spread out, nor all that busy, nor comfy and dark. Tables are mostly like you would find in a cafeteria. The place seems to attract old white folks, maybe it is a Chinese food retreat from Cedar's Sinai to the north. The tangerine chicken (some place call it tangerine, some call it orange, and preparations differ widely) was OK and the chicken egg foo young was good, not crispy enough for my taste but at least not gummy. The sweet and sour pork was not overly bready and was crunchy. With the lunch special you have the usual choice of hot and sour or egg drop soup and a choice of fried or white rice, again quite normal for most places like this. Salad is a few bucks extra if you want it with your lunch special. Although they only gave us lunch special menus I would assume you could ask for the regular menu and order other dishes.I liked it and would go back. Most dinner entrees are around $11 and the lunch specials max out at $8.95 My lunch cohorts liked their portion sizes, I thought they were average although the egg foo young is enough for 2 meals (also quite normal for places like this).Forgot to mention the brown sauce that came with my egg foo young was really good too. If you are thinking you might want some of that egg foo young goodness to go, get the sauce on the side so it doesn't get soggy.Fu's Palace is tasty sauce.Recommended.

Was craving Chinese food, I usually order from Twin Dragon down the street but thought I'd try a new place. Saw all the yelp reviews for Fu Palace and looked ok, so I ordered. Food was HORRIBLE! Like they say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" should of ordered from Twin Dragon. The fried rice was definitely fried, no egg to be found and no veggies, the chicken looks like it was deep fried prior. Beef broccoli was edible it just sucked.

Excited to have some tasty Chinese delivery close by. I was quoted 20 minutes or sooner and it showed up in 10. "Should I be worried?" I wondered to myself as I slowly opened the containers of sweet & sour pork and shrimp fried rice. Taking a bite of each, I did a little happy dance. As other reviewers mention, yes there is a lot of breading, but I didn't find the pork to be off putting at all. In fact, I exclaimed "THIS PORK TASTES GREAT!" It was sweet, it was sour, and then I cried, because it was gone. I left no room for any shrimp fried rice, which was friggin' delicious as well. Luckily, leftover shrimp fried rice makes a bomb breakfast the next day.Lots of food, large portions. Wasn't expecting that, so I ended up with meals thrice. Thanks Fu! Whoever you are...

Fu's rocks! A neighbor brought me Chinese food one day and I really enjoyed it. It was fresh, flavorful and tasty. Now, I just ordered my own and requested 'hot', 'spicy' - REALLY hot and spicy and was a bit surprised to find it was neither. It was still good though. My neighbor claims the food she brought me was very spicy too so I've decided it's just a difference in palate preference.I think restaurants are resorting to 'American' spicy which is relatively mild in comparison to 'Asian' spicy. It really is okay with me to get spicy food that makes you sweat but I understand most places are afraid Americans will choke to death (and who needs a corpse at the table - very bad for business?) so I won't fault them for being overly cautious. Well worth another round as far as I'm concerned and really happy to have found the place!

Fu's Palace is delicious. I live right down the street and had tried every Chinese restaurant BUT Fu's. Despite the mediocre reviews, I decided to order from here because I wanted crispy fried chicken wings and this is the only Chinese restaurant in my proximity that has them, apparently. The chicken wings are delicious. They are mildly spicy with a garlic, scallion dry rub and the perfect amount of salt.Another thing I was impressed by was the wonton soup. The broth was clear and mild not bold and salty. The wontons are handmade delicately, so tender melts in your mouth, (not a clumsy, chewy dumpling dropped in salty urine yellow broth), and the pork filling is slightly sweet fused with ginger and scallions. It was perfect.Their egg rolls are the real egg rolls, thick, wide enough to have a decent filling, fried to an authentic brown crisp, crispy dough on the outside, chewy on the inside. Filled with chunks of meaty shrimp and pork evenly balanced with shredded cabbage. It's a meal in itself.I also tried their chicken chow mein and while that is a pretty generic dish what I liked about Fu's is that their diced chicken didn't taste like egg...yes, egg..it tasted like chicken. I've noticed other Chinese restaurants in this area, I dont know if they coat their chicken in egg but, their chicken tastes like egg...yea, yech..There prices are good and their portions are big. I have lots of leftovers.Even though I had been ordering from every other Chinese restaurant in this area (and always felt unimpressed and often disappointed) I'm sold. I'm ordering at Fu's from now on.

The kung pao tofu was good but when I've ordered any kung pao dish in the past there are usually peppers and/or onions in it. This was just tofu with a few peanuts and even though I asked for medium/hot it was not spicy at all.The real problem? The soup was almost inedible. The shrimp in the war wonton soup was so fishy it bordered on rancid. The broth itself just tasted like fishy shrimp water and was very oily.Best parts were the crispy noodles and fortune cookies!Try another place.

Anything better, you'd have to go to China Town or Monrovia/Montebello area.Con's:They may have not staffed themselves right for the job, because the servers/ manager, were EXTREMELY frantic. I had to get up and get my water (not that I care to) many times. I also had to clear our table because they kept bringing out dishes, but never took them away.I actually enjoy the family style dinners, but 9 tables of people makes things a little hectic. 3 stars for the food, 4 stars for the service and the nostalgia. If you went to UCLA, you know Fu's Palace. Back in college, I visited Fu's many a time, usually on a fraternity or sorority party bus, where people dressed in costumes, sang songs, and passed around 2-liters. One of the dining rooms was always closed, but there was a huge bar and a separate dance floor. I'm not sure what percentage of their profits Fu's can thank UCLA organizations for, but I'll bet it's pretty significant.A college friend and I had always heard a rumor that this place is a real restaurant that serves real food, so we decided to try it, many, many years after leaving college. Free parking in the back!It looked exactly the same as I remembered. The menus looked like they were around since the restaurant's opening, and the restaurant is very old school Chinese.... vinyl chairs, dressed-up waitstaff, the kind of place from back in the day when Chinese food was considered exotic. We split the Volcano Punch, the sweet and sour crispy pork, and the three-flavor sizzling soup. The soup had flavorless broth and meat.... I wished there was MSG on the table that I could add to it. Good amount of chicken and shrimp but pretty bland overall. My friend's pork dish was better, and too large of a portion for both of us. The rum-based volcano punch, meant to be shared, was boozy, sweet, and served in a big clam-shaped dish with 2 long straws and a flaming lime slice. Since most of nthe cocktails looked really sweet, we figured this was a good choice ($16 but the amount of around 3 drinks). They had a full bar and lots of beers and wines, albeit a little pricey for this kind of restaurant. The servers were friendly and sweet... stopping by to joke around with us or to chat. Free hot tea, too!I was happy that the food was decent and that nothing had changed in the 10+ years since I had been here, so that it was a nice trip down memory lane. Thanks for the memories, Fu's!

Three kinds of chicken. That came from each of us not really discussing what we wanted and then ordering as though each was our own personal entree. I will say, though, that of three chicken types the General Tso's was by far the best. We've gone back a few times, and manage to keep our orders relatively small. General Tso's, fried rice (which all seem to be the same price whether you order with a meat or just veggie, unless you up it to shrimp or yang chow), and sauteed spinach ($6.95) are enough for three. Cream cheese wontons (8 for $4.95) optional. The wait staff are quite personable. Our last visit, we came not long before closing and they still hosted us warmly, with this older gentleman walking us to our car when we were finished because he was concerned with how dark it was in the lot out back.

It's another Thursday night, and this time I've made the 15 minute drive with my DJ gear to Fu's Palace. As I step in and easily walk by the (lack of) security with beers I've stashed in my bag, I prepare myself for another FUn night. What better place to listen to drunk College Girls request Skrillex and "MORE HIP HOP" than the ultimate dive bar in Los Angeles? What do I not leave home without? My mini fan. Fu's Palace has a dance floor that transforms into a sauna, making it the perfect place to sweat out any alcohol you may have in your system. If you're a UCLA student org, chances are you know about how much money you can pull in from Fu's Palace. With bar tab around $1000 to $1500, you can easily break even just by having 100 people to an event and charging entry fee of $10. I know student orgs that have made almost $4000 gross profit from these parties. Guests like the venue because drinks are cheap. There's also a dance floor room and smoking patio, which is nice.Speaking of the dance floor area, it used to be carpet. They recently renovated it in the past year to hardwood flooring, which is easier to dance on. The lights in the dance floor area were also renovated, however it works against your benefit. You'll need to hire a DJ with actual lights (PICK ME!!!!), as the lights on the wall don't dim. Management won't let you turn the lights off unless the DJ has lights of his own...meaning, you need to actually spend money on a DJ, otherwise you're gonna have an AWESOME high school dance feeling with ALL THE LIGHTS ON! Trust, not even millions of scorpion bowls can overcome that. Also, there is no house sound system - bring your own speakers.Fu's Palace caps out around 250-300 people surprisingly. Here's a little hint: if you're trying to book an event there, make sure you come hungry. When you sign the contract and put down a deposit, the people working there typically give you a free meal.TLDR-Fu's Palace: Where Memories Are Made...and easily forgotten by drinking scorpion bowls.Diary of A DJ Part 1, 3/5 Stars

Fu's Palace.Anyone who calls herself a Bruin will know its name. In my first couple years at UCLA, I had only been for Asian frat/sorority events, and I was completely surprised when I found out that white people also knew Fu's! I have event planned an event here for my Panhellenic sorority a couple years ago. While it is is pretty small, it's pretty much guaranteed a good time for everyone. Drinks are pretty strong & the scorpion bowl is pretty awesome. The dance floor isn't too big, so I think the absolute maximum you can have for an event here is like 100 people. If you need to rent out the place for a night event, easy peasy! Gary is super nice and easy to work with. If you have bar tab, you can supplement that by ordering some finger food as well for your guests.P.S. relevant http://wheninla.tumblr.c… HAHAHHAHAHHA

Comes with really long straws - super sweet and fun.Ordered the Pu Pu platter. The best items on the tray were the eggrolls and the spare ribs, but it comes in a lazy susan/hibachi plate that's a kick.Kung Pao tofu was quite good, so was the Crispy Duckling (1/2).They give you crispy egg noodles with sweet and sour sauce and spicy mustard when you sit down. Growing up Jewish, my people and I know good Chinese food when we taste it; in fact, it's a staple of our religious acumen. And while I didn't get to partake in the party-in-your-mouth known as the Scorpion Bowl, I did get to order delivery. While their delivery system felt fairly seamless online, I swear on my Kung Pao Chicken that I had in fact clicked "Spicy Chicken w/ Peanuts," but much to my dismay, the restaurant had delivered shrimp. In their defense, I had somehow accidentally ordered the shrimp (reviewed my receipt to confirm). Lucky for me, Fu's Palace believes in the customer is always right and was able to exchange my shrimp for chicken in under an hour. The chicken was delicious and the girlfriend raved about her curry shrimp (which I didn't touch). The only reason for losing a star is that the brown rice was really gummy and my fortune was crappy advice vs. telling me that I'll win Mega Millions next time I'll play. Will definitely order again from here and would recommend it to anyone who lives in the area. Next time, we'll have to take a cab, dine in and try the Scorpion Bowl.

Spent many moons grubbing Fu's and being happy. It's a simple, no frills place to eat and drink and sometimes get caught up in some random crazy at the parties thrown out back. Located right at the cusp of Beverly Hills adjacent with convenient and ample parking out back, this is a spot to go to when you want to chill before heading out for the night, or if you live close-by, a safe place for a meal and a drunk and a stagger home.General Info - The booths are big, the service prompt, the drinks extremely healthy and well poured if you stick to the basics. If mixed cocktails are your thing, then be prepared for a heavy hand on the liquor. If rocks or neat are your bag, then get ready for a full glass of booze. The Food - This is the place that made me fall in love with Kung Pao Tofu. Don't know what they put in the sauce that's different than other spots and have no idea how they get the texture of the tofu so, so perfect. It ain't healthy, that's for damn sure. Fried to perfection in a way that avoids tofu mushiness or deep fried crustiness. The hot and sour soup is the bomb. Delightfully salty, so much so that I could literally drink that shit and ask for more...It's a tad bright for my eyes and it's a weird place to sit at the bar, but the staff is always cool and smiling and the patrons don't bother you at all.Usually leave here full, drunk, and happy. That's it....

Having never really explored this neighborhood of L.A., I was very surprised and pleased to see all the Jewish shops as we were approaching Fu's Palace. I thought to myself, "Are we really going to a Chinese restaurant, because I don't see anything remotely Chinese around here." Then, I remembered that to a Jew, the next best kind of food after matzah ball soup and kugel is a hot steaming bowl of Wonton Soup!Fu's Palace is your average family style Chinese restaurant, filled with a good balance of Chinese patrons hungry for something close to home and Americans trying to fulfill their "exotic" culinary desires with the only thing they know. The waiters are very friendly, efficient and are more than happy to make recommendations.Since we weren't too hungry at the time, we only got a bowl of Seafood Combination Noodle Soup, a chicken dish, and a vegetable dish. After a long day of cruising around L.A., I let my friend pick everything, so the names of the dishes are long gone from my brain. The soup was quite tasty, with every seafood creature plentifully represented. The broth was a bit bland but it was hardly noticeable. The chicken and veggie dishes were pretty average. Nothing too amazing about them but nothing to complain about either. In addition to a fortune cookie with your check, you also get an almond cookie, which is a nice little treat. Overall, good service, decent food, and lots of room for a banquet or large group event. Nothing to complain about, but nothing to rave about either.
